Council of education’s Deshbhakta Ratnappa Kumbhar College of Commerce has successfully completed 69 years of its meaningful and progressive existence. The college located in the heart of city is one of the reputed colleges in West Maharashtra. The college is well equipped with excellent infrastructure and learning resources. the college was established in 1957 with only 135 students and only one B.Com. programme in an old building known as paha building. The college has maintained high quality standards and values of higher education. The college entered in science stream from the academic year 2025-26. Presently the college runs 6 programs with the total enrolment of 5000 plus students.

It’s a matter of pride that the college has significantly surpassed the vision at the time of its establishment by consistently producing competent human resource in commerce and management field. The college has prominent proud alumni such as

MLAs, IAS officers, chartered accountants, bankers, entrepreneurs, accountants, company secretaries and many more to serve our nation over the years. Since its inception, the college has made systematic and sustained progress in terms of infrastructure and performance. Quality initiative, quality enhancement and quality systems always remained focus of DRK College of commerce. A range of facilities and support systems have been developed to address the evolving requirement of students. The college aspires to emerge as a centre for skill based education. It offers extensive opportunities for talent, identification, talent development and talent deployment. To strengthen this goal state of art infrastructure, such as libraries, e content development room, computer labs, playgrounds, science labs, auditorium have been provided with the additional facilities expected to become operational in near future.

Principal Dr. Varsha V. Mendargi ( Ph.D.)

Principal Dr. Varsha Vivekanand Maindargi is a professor of accountancy and Incharge Dean, faculty of commerce and Management, Shivaji University, Kolhapur. She is former Management Council member, Academic Council member, Chairman, Board of studies of Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

Over the last four decades of her career, she has nurtured the commerce department into a Centre of academic and research excellence and has received funding from University grants commission, New Delhi. She has published 30+ research articles in international journals, 28 in national journals , four reference books, 13 book chapters. Under her able guidance three students have successfully completed their Ph.D. degrees and 10+ students have completed M.Phil.degrees. She has completed one major research Project and 2 minor research projects funded by University Grants Commission, New Delhi. Her recommendations based on research projects were accepted by BSNL in their policy formulation.

Dr Varsha Maindargi stood first in the merit list of Shivaji University at M. Com. She is University ranker at B. Com examination. She is a national level Volleyball Player. She has delivered hundred plus invited talks in many national and international conferences. She has published articles on recent social issues in local newspapers and delivered radio talk also.

For her contribution in academic and social field she is awarded with the various awards -Tararani Adarsh Shikshak puraskar Bharat Shiksharatna award, Best teacher award by Avishkar Foundation, Sakal Media group award.

She has worked on various academic and administrative committees of Shivaji University. She played a leading role in Introducing various skill based courses. Presently, she is working as a principal of one of the repeated College Deshbhakta Ratna Kumar College of commerce
